May 26, 2022
Looking to build a basic skincare routine? But not sure where to start? We’ve got you! A morning and night skincare routine is essential for maintaining the health and appearance of your skin. Because our skin types and skin concerns are so varied, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. So we’re here to help you find the best routine to suit your daily needs.
Benefits of a daily skincare routine
A daily skincare routine can have many benefits including reducing signs of ageing, improving skin health and it’s also a fantastic and easy way to bring some self care into your day.
Reduces and prevents signs of ageing
As we grow older, our skin’s elasticity, texture and moisture levels change. While we believe that younger skin is no more beautiful than ageing skin, many of us take comfort in knowing that the best skincare routines can treat and nourish our skin, helping it to retain firmness, plumpness and that all important healthy glow.
Improves skin health
As the body’s largest organ, our skin comes into direct contact with environmental aggressors (also known as free radicals) on a daily basis. A basic skincare routine protects our skin from these pollutants, replenishes moisture levels, and protects our skin barrier. The healthier your skin is - the better it will look!
Boosts confidence
There’s something about the act of self care that simply makes you feel good. It’s a way to connect with your body every day and know you’re doing something positive for yourself in that moment. The fact that it can have external benefits which also boosts confidence is another bonus!
How do I start a skincare routine for beginners?
If you’re starting a basic skincare routine from scratch, we recommend starting with minimal, crucial steps that work with your skin type, and slowly introducing products that target your specific skin concerns. This guide will help everyone from beginners to skincare experts achieve glowing, healthy skin every day by using the Jeuneora Skincare range that has been tried and tested by skincare lovers across the globe.
Your morning skincare routine
A morning skincare routine should focus on hydration and protection. This is where you want to use antioxidant-rich ingredients that protect your skin from environmental stressors.
Cleanser
Cleansers remove excess oil, grime or dead skin cells you’ve picked up from your pillow in the night, and leave you with fresh, cleansed skin that is ready to soak in the next steps of your morning skincare routine. A versatile foaming cleanser like OhMyDays is our favourite way to start the day.
Serums
Serums generally contain concentrated doses of active ingredients that serve a specific purpose. They hone in on specific skin concerns, targeting everything from fine lines to dark spots.
To brighten skin, fade dark spots and protect against free radicals try our antioxidant-rich Vitamin C serum - Brightening Booster.
To visibly reduce signs of ageing and to deeply hydrate your skin, try our multitasking serum DewyDays which includes Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid and other key Antioxidants.
Moisturiser
Every skin type needs moisture, even oily ones. Moisturiser is fundamental in any basic skincare routine. It hydrates your skin and locks in all the actives you’ve applied at the serum stage . In the morning, use a lightweight and energising moisturiser like GoLightly – which includes a special marine ingredient that protects your skin from digital blue light pollution.
SPF
SPF is the most important step in any morning skincare routine. UV rays are responsible for early ageing, dark spots and skin cancer, which is why a broad-spectrum SPF, like FullStop, is a must in any basic skincare routine.
Your night skincare routine
A night skincare routine is all about cleansing, treatment and recovery. Plus, it’s the perfect opportunity to take five and unwind from your day.
Double cleanse
We love a double cleanse to deeply Start with an oil-based cleanser like MeltTheDay to remove makeup, SPF and general grime from the day, then follow up with a lightweight foaming cleanser like OhMyDays to deeply cleanse pores, remove impurities and leave skin feeling fresh, clean and hydrated.
Exfoliation (1-3 times a week)
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, unblocks pores and preps your skin for the next steps in your skincare routine. Physical exfoliators like SupearlaNova use tiny particles that buff dead skin cells away, while chemical exfoliators like Clarifying Booster use naturally-derived Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHAs (like Glycolic, Mandelic or Lactic Acid) to break down those dead skin cells. We recommend exfoliating 2 - 3 times per week.
Serums
Our favourite evening serum is Renewing Booster. It uses Retinol, a form of Vitamin A to fights and prevents signs of ageing by stimulating collagen production, clearing pores, and brightening skin. We recommend using Renewing Booster 3-4 times per week.
If you’re looking for more of a multitasking serum, or retinol is not your thing look for a super hydrating and nourishing serum like ThemGenes that includes peptides, flavonoids and amino acids. These ingredients do wonders for your skin’s health and microbiome while you sleep.
Moisturisers & Oils
Moisturisers and oils create a protective barrier over your skin and lock in all the other products so they can work their magic, which is why they’re the last step in your night skincare routine. An ultra-hydrating repair cream like GoNightly replenishes and restores moisture levels while you sleep and if you really want a nourishing treat, finishing up with our luxe face oil - SuperSuper. Just remember, face oils shouldn’t be used in place of moisturiser. Think of it this way: If you were thirsty, you wouldn’t rehydrate by drinking a glass of oil! Your skin’s the same!
Skincare routine FAQs
How do you maintain a beauty routine?
Like any good habit, maintaining a beauty routine (and seeing the results!) comes down to consistency. You could try setting your alarm five minutes earlier so you can take the time to enjoy your morning skincare routine, rather than rushing through it or running out of time. In the evening, use your night skincare routine as your time to relax and unwind from the day. After 4 - 6 weeks it will become a habit and you’ll start to see results!
What is the most basic skincare routine?
A basic skincare routine should include three products in the morning: cleanser, moisturiser and an SPF. At night time simply cleanse and moisturise.
Can morning and night skincare routines be the same?
If you want to keep things simple… absolutely! There are a few exceptions: targeted AHAs and Retinol should only be used in the evenings and SPF should be applied every morning.
Should you do your skincare right before bed?
You can do your night skincare routine before bed, but we like to give the products about 20 minutes to soak in so they don’t rub off onto your pillow.
What does vitamin C do for your skin?
So much! Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that brightens skin, visibly reduces the appearance of dark spots, supports collagen production, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and protects your skin against environmental damage - this makes it a great ingredient to use in your morning skincare routine.
Do I need both serum and moisturiser?
This completely depends on your skin type, how much time you want to spend on your skincare, and your budget! Serums generally contain targeted active ingredients that treat specific skin concerns, while moisturisers hydrate the skin and seal in all the goodness. Two of our serums have been designed to also be able to stand alone as a moisturiser if you’re trying to keep things more simple but also want some more targeted active ingredients: Check out DewyDays and ThemGenes.
