Why is sleep so important?

Without sleep, our ability to function would be severely impaired. Sleep enables our bodies and minds to relax, recover, and grow, enhancing both physical and mental performance over time. Although it may seem like we're idle, our bodies and brains are hard at work during sleep. Our brains consolidate new information, eliminate toxins, and allow nerve cells to communicate and reorganize for optimal function. Meanwhile, our bodies repair cells, replenish energy, and release essential hormones and proteins.

How much sleep do we need?

While the number of hours we sleep each night is crucial (experts suggest between 7 and 9 hours), improving the quality of our sleep is just as important! Sleep consists of four stages, and we need to cycle through these stages 4 to 6 times each night for optimal rest and recovery. To reach stages 3 and 4, we must first pass through stages 1 and 2. This shows us the importance of not only getting enough sleep but also falling asleep quickly and maintaining uninterrupted sleep. Stage 1: Light sleep begins as you start to drift off. Stage 2: Your body and brain relax and slow down. Stage 3: Known as deep sleep, this is where the good stuff happens. Stage 4: REM sleep, where most dreaming happen
