Wedding Skin Prep Timeline: What to Start and When
October 14, 2026
Search for wedding skin prep and most of what comes up is a clinic treatment menu. Treatments have their place, but most of what your skin looks like on the day is built at home, in the months before, one ordinary morning and night at a time.
The catch is time. Your skin renews its surface roughly once a month, and that cycle slows as you get older, so anything you change takes a few rounds to show. Here's what to start, and when, so your skin is settled and looking like itself at its best by the time the camera comes out.
Six months out: settle your routine
Start with a routine you'll actually keep: cleanse, a serum that suits your skin, moisturiser, and SPF in the morning. Our guide to morning vs night skincare covers what goes where.
If you want to add a stronger active, like a retinoid or an exfoliating acid, now is the time. Most people get some dryness or flaking in the first few weeks while skin adjusts, and you want that well behind you. Use it at night and wear SPF the next day. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to start a family around the wedding, retinoids aren't suitable, so have a chat with your midwife or healthcare professional about what to use instead.
Thinking about anti-wrinkle injections or a course of clinic treatments? Book the first appointment now. Your injector gets to see how your face responds and adjust well before the day. We cover the collagen question in Does Collagen Help Anti-Wrinkle Injections Last Longer?
If you've got breakouts or a skin concern that won't settle, see your GP now rather than later. Prescription treatments can take a few months to work, and your GP can refer you to a dermatologist if needed.
Three months out: work from the inside
This is the step most timelines skip. What you take every day shows up in your skin too. It just needs a longer runway than a serum.
Naticol®, the marine collagen in Renew+, has been studied in its own right. In a placebo-controlled study of 95 women, clinicians rated skin as more radiant and more even in tone after eight weeks of a daily 2.5g dose. Renew+ gives you 6g in every scoop. Most studies run for eight to twelve weeks, which is why three months out is the time to start.
Renew+ pairs that 6g of Naticol® marine collagen with 1000mg of vitamin C, which your body needs to make collagen of its own, plus hyaluronic acid. It mixes into water or a smoothie, so it fits into mornings already full of wedding admin. Take it every day. If you're wondering what to look for along the way, here are the signs your collagen is working.
Six weeks out: protect what you've built
Wedding season here runs straight into the strongest UV of the year. Peak summer UV in New Zealand is about 40% higher than at similar latitudes in the northern hemisphere, and you can burn on a cloudy day. A burn can peel for a week or more, and tan lines from a dress fitting, an outdoor hen's do or a friend's wedding show up in photos long after you've forgotten them.
So SPF stops being optional. FullStop SPF50 Daily Glow Screen goes on as the last step every morning. Reapply when you're outside for long stretches, cloudy days included, and add a hat for anything that runs past lunchtime.
Don't stop at your face
Your neck, chest and hands are in nearly every photo, and the ring shot is all hands. They get the same sun as your face and far less care. Take your routine down past your jawline: moisturiser and SPF on your neck and chest every morning, and FullStop on the backs of your hands when you're outside. Hand cream at night, plus nails filed and cuticles pushed back a week out, and your ring photos are sorted.
The last month: nothing new
- No new products, peels or treatments you haven't had before. A first-time reaction is the last thing you need three weeks out.
- Book your final facial one to two weeks before the day, with someone you've seen before.
- If your skin is settled on a retinoid, keep going, then skip it and any exfoliating acids for the two or three nights before so skin stays calm under makeup.
- Take your usual routine to your makeup trial so you know how everything sits together.
The week of the wedding, keep it simple: the same routine, plenty of water, as much sleep as the week allows, and hands off any spot that appears. On the morning, cleanse, moisturise, apply SPF, and let your makeup artist take it from there.
If you've left it late
Six weeks or less? Don't try to make up for lost time with new actives. That's how calm skin becomes reactive skin. Put your energy into what pays off quickly: SPF every morning, a hydrating routine you stick to, and sleep. Collagen isn't a quick fix for the day itself, but starting now is still worth it for the year that follows, honeymoon photos included.
Whatever your countdown, the order stays the same: start what takes time, protect it from the sun, and add nothing new in the final month. On the day, you want your skin to look like yours, just rested and well looked after. That's what photographs best, and it's what you'll still love when you look back at the pictures in twenty years.
