This International Women’s Day (Sunday 8th March) we want to focus on supporting and empowering women, not only by celebrating success, but also by finding ways to support vulnerable women in the world. So, we’ve decided to raise awareness and donate 10% of our profits for one week* to Hagar NZ.

Why Hagar?

Hagar is in the business of transforming the lives of some of the most traumatised people in our world. They do incredible work supporting women and children who have survived human trafficking, slavery and other types of severe abuse in Cambodia, Vietnam and Afghanistan.

We think that’s worth supporting.

Modern slavery is one of the most pressing and devastating human rights issues of our time. One person is sold into slavery every 27 seconds and estimates indicate that there are currently over 40.3 million people living in slavery; 25% of them are children, 62% are in Asia and 71% are women. The numbers seem overwhelming, but thankfully, organisations like Hagar are working together to help.

Anna Button, a representative of Hagar NZ said that the unique thing about Hagar is that they don’t work in a one-size fits all approach:

“Hagar does not have a standard, 6-week programme, that every person goes through. We believe that each person's experience and trauma is unique and thus their recovery journey has to be unique as well.”

“We do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to see them healed and transformed!”

To help survivors recover and decrease their risk of future vulnerability, Hagar provides expert services to help survivors get back on their feet and recover from trauma. This could include organising safe accommodation, expert trauma counselling, legal assistance, education and economic empowerment opportunities.

Alongside raising funds to support the crucial work happening overseas, Hagar NZ also works to raise awareness of human trafficking and slavery here in New Zealand both in communities and with government departments and NGOs.
